I appreciate how Nils Frahm does not try to disguise the piano he is playing and even the room itself. This is how it sounds, so this is what we get. And so it is with my new collection of solo piano instrumentals. These sketches were written and recorded at home over the last year. I have shared some of them with close friends, who have found them relaxing, spacious and healing. So is any more emotional resonance really needed? I was kind of waiting to record them ‘properly’ without the birds, rain and insects of Larnook country, but change of plan and here they are, as they were sketched. If you enjoyed ‘The Secret Chord’ in 2019, this is a continuation of that slow, languid, late night style, looking for spaces, finding shapes that are just a little more velvet. Alternative album titles: ‘Discovering Shakti Meadow’, ‘The Reset’ and ‘Star Gazing’ … all these find their place as track titles. Bandcamp only release for now. The picture of the miniature piano is by Wengang Zhai, from Unsplash, while fellow pianist Kathryn Hume assisted the the typeface and colours. Let me know how it lands with you, blessings Shunya
